Love Addiction
Love addiction is an obsessive disorder that is much closer to codependency than it is to love. Characterized by a desperate, endless search for someone outside themselves to complete them and provide the emotional stability they lack, love addicts go from one failed relationship to another, often initiating the next encounter before the current one is finished. Relationships are fraught with extreme romantic, sexual and emotional highs and lows and often involve destructive, compulsive behavior patterns and complex manipulation.
Love addiction stems from the fear of abandonment, feelings of unworthiness and low self-esteem, and from a deep-seated fear of true intimacy. As children, the addicted frequently experience a lack of nurturing or attention, isolation or detachment from primary care givers, diminished or unrecognized needs and early abandonment, resulting in the severe emotional pain that lays the groundwork for the love addict’s behavior and relationship failures. YOU CAN HAVE A HEALTHY, LOVING RELATIONSHIP Individualized, results-oriented treatment will enable you to heal from the trauma and live a balanced, stable emotional life. |
