The Therapy Process

As a sex addict, you, or your loved one, need specialized care. While many therapists can adequately treat chemical addition, there are only a small percentage that have the proper training to treat your illness effectively. These therapists are highly trained in the many phases of recovery for a sex addict and his family. Angie Rosillo is such a therapist. Here are the steps she will take to guide you in your recovery:

  • You will have an initial meeting with her to establish the problems you face
  • Your therapist will take an extensive history
  • You may be asked to take certain online tests, for sex addiction or trauma, or perhaps both, to determine the depth of your illness
  • Once your therapist interprets your tests, you will begin your therapy in earnest
  • In additional one-on-one therapy, you will be asked to join group therapy, which will be most helpful as you relate to others with the same condition
  • You may be asked to join a 12-step group and find a sponsor to help you maintain your recovery
  • You will be encouraged to have your family start therapy. When your loved ones are actively involved in your recovery, the chances of success increase dramatically. It will also help them to cope and heal, which shatters the shame cycle when partners are addicted.
